Midsummer Solstice Rogaining 2025

Shortly before Midsummer 2025, 137 participants of the Midsummer Solstice rogaining set out to enjoy the magical shortest night of the year in the forests of Tome parish. The rogainers were met with 50 checkpoints with a maximum total of 239 points, as well as a special refreshment point at a Latvian State Forests recreation site with a bonfire and snacks

As the organizers had planned, the 3-hour course participants mostly used the southern and eastern part of the map, visiting the nearest checkpoints around the Tome fish farm and on the island between the Līčupe and the Daugava. The most checkpoints on the course were collected by the MO3 group teams – “Resnie putni” (Madars and Sondars Bandenoviči), “Ko te notiek?” (Uldis Kleinbergs, Kristaps Larionovs) and “Viesturs” (Kaspars Bogdanovs, Valdis Brauns). The teams scored 76 points (-3 points for exceeding the time limit), 74 points (-4 points for exceeding the time limit) and 68 ranking points, respectively.

Right behind the most successful teams, the family group team AMAZING AND SURPRISING (Ruslans and Etjēns Semuševi) also delivered an excellent performance with 67 points. Victory laurels were also taken by the fastest women Viktorija Bērziņa and Maija Ceruka (team “Cilpojam taisni”, 60 points), the mixed team “Vai esam jau klāt?” (Agita Dreimane, Nauris Bērziņš, 52 ranking points), juniors Ričards Krēmers and Mārtiņš Krūmiņš (team “RV1Ģ”, 51 points) and the women veterans Natālija Jonicenko and Raivita Birkentāla (team “Maldugunis”, 44 ranking points).

In the 9-hour course, the fight for the podium places was not only three times longer, but also offered much broader route-planning possibilities. Overall, all the most enduring rogainer teams visited every checkpoint placed on the map at least once, yet no team managed to collect all 239 ranking points in the darkness of night. With a lead of more than 20 points over second place, the MV9 group was won by the team “BEZ STRESA” (Viesturs Šlosbergs, Renārs Skudra, 208 points), while in the XO9 group – “Dullie eži” (Sandis Pētersons, Agnese Poikāne) with 204 ranking points.

The fastest women’s team “Ampēriņš” consisted of Madara Apsalone and Aleksandra Fjodorova, who together scored 166 points. Among the men’s superveterans, the fastest were Ilmārs Dukulis and Zintis Brasavs-Muižnieks (team “Alces”, 165 points), in the mixed superveterans the victory laurels were taken by Vija Utāne and Ēvalds Žogla (team “Tomes jāņtārpiņi”, 134 points), while the women’s superveteran winners were Indra Segliņa and Ieva Vītoliņa (team “Jūra līdz ceļiem”, 131 points).

At the finish straight, all participants had the opportunity not only to compete for the chance to be the first to reach the Tome memorial stone, but also to enjoy beer, kvass and Jāņi cheese from Lapsu Mājas siers and Sierštelle. Also at the awards ceremony, teams received special commemorative medals, created in cooperation with Medaļas un Kausi – a Latvian company specializing in creating personalized awards, as well as youth-made wreaths and Jāņi herb bouquets, and discount coupons from Ezītis Miglā, Antali.lv and other prizes.
A big thank you to everyone who got involved in making the rogaining happen, especially Aivars Žogla and the volunteer helpers – Lelde, Ilze, Ieva, Kristaps, Lauma, Helēna, Dace, Krista, Māris, Roberts, Adrians, Sindija and Sanija.
