The competition is included in the LOF competition calendar as the final round of the 2026 Latvian Cup; the 4- and 6-hour courses count towards the rogaining rankings.
Competition format: rogaining, with a time limit of 3 hours, 4 hours (Municipalities' Cup) or 6 hours. Teams consist of 2–5 participants.
The competition is held in accordance with the rogaining competition rules approved by the IRF and LOF. The rules are published on the Latvian rogaining website https://rogaining.lv/.../LV_Rogaininga_noteikumi_2024.pdf . Some provisions of the rules may be changed; any changes are described in these regulations.
During the competition, participants may use only a compass, a watch and the competition map provided by the organisers for navigation. Travel is permitted only on foot, without the use of aids.
Failure to comply with the instructions or regulations, or ignoring additional instructions from the organisers, may result in the disqualification of a participant or team. It is also prohibited to participate in rogaining under the influence of alcohol or drugs, behave recklessly or show disrespect towards other event participants or the organisers.
Participants agree not to make claims against the organisers for injuries resulting from overestimating their abilities, failing to assess conditions, their own negligence or lack of experience. Participants are responsible for their own health and safety and confirm this by signing at competition registration. Responsibility for participants under 16 years of age is assumed by an adult teammate, parent and/or guardian (with parental permission submitted at registration).
By entering the competition, participants confirm that they have read the competition information and agree to comply with the competition regulations and any additional instructions from the organisers.
By registering for and participating in the competition, participants agree that photographs and videos taken during the competition may be used to publicise this and other competitions and promote an active lifestyle. They also agree that the personal data provided in their entry may be used to publish team line-ups and to compile and publish results in print, online and on social media.
While in the forest, participants must observe forest fire-safety rules, avoid damaging the forest soil and infrastructure, refrain from littering, follow the rules for using recreation areas, avoid destroying birds' nests and anthills or otherwise harming forest plants and animals, and stay out of areas designated as prohibited by the organisers (marked on the map with purple hatching).
Protect and respect natural and man-made features!
You may encounter dogs and wild animals on the course.
Personalised A5 participant numbers are provided for identification and will be given to teams at registration. They must be attached in a visible place to clothing or a bag using safety pins or a race-number belt.
Teams must carry a mobile phone with a charged battery on the course so they can contact the organisers in an emergency. The organisers' mobile phone number will be printed on the rogaining map.
Participants who wish to withdraw from the rogaining event must inform the organisers, even if they do not need to be evacuated. The entry fee is not refunded upon withdrawal from the event.
Safety recommendations for participants:
- Follow traffic regulations when travelling on public roads
- Each participant is advised to carry a headlamp and wear a reflective vest after dark
- Each participant is advised to carry a whistle on the course. If necessary, use several series of short whistle blasts to signal your location to teammates.
- If you are unsure of your swimming ability, please do not cross deep bodies of water, including bogs, ditches and streams.
The aim of the Municipalities' Cup is to encourage sporting activity among municipalities, their employees and residents, and to identify Latvia's most active and athletic municipality in rogaining.
Teams may comprise municipal leaders, councillors, administrative and institutional employees, municipal residents and property owners (hereinafter referred to as municipal teams). When registering, teams indicate which municipality they represent.
The winner of the Freedom Rogaining Municipalities' Cup is the municipal team that earns the most points based on its placing in the category in which it competes.
All municipal teams that participate and finish with a valid result receive points towards the standings.
For example, Mārupe Municipality is represented by 3 teams. One finishes 3rd in the MJ4 category, another finishes 9th in WO4, and the third finishes 1st in MV4. The municipality earns 5+1+10=16 points. Balvi Municipality, meanwhile, enters 5 teams, which finish 1st in WJ4, 4th in WJ4, 7th in XO4, 2nd in WV4 and 6th in WV4, respectively. This municipality earns a total of 10+3+1+7+1=22 points (see the explanation of category names in the “Participant categories” section).
If 2 or more municipalities earn the same number of points, the higher placing is determined by the following criteria, in this order:
- Number of municipal teams (the municipality with more teams ranks higher);
- The municipality with the most teams that finished 1st in their respective categories;
- The total value of control points collected by all the municipality's teams.
We invite municipalities to bring small promotional gifts to the “Freedom Rogaining” event, which we will add to the prize draw after the awards ceremony for the 4-hour course teams.
Participants' ages are determined as of 31 December 2026 (inclusive)
Children aged 14 or under may participate only with at least one parent. Participants over 16, or the parents/guardians of participants under 16, are responsible for their own health and for insurance against accidents and possible injuries. Participants under 16 need verbal or written permission from a parent/guardian to take part. Written permission is required if the participant's parent/guardian is not present at registration. It may be written in any format, or a template may be requested by emailing [email protected] .

The competition area, approximately 70 km2, is located in Kurzeme, in Zentene Parish, Tukums Municipality. The terrain is varied: mostly young and old forest stands alternate with open and semi-open areas, with more farmland in the central part of the map. The forests include pine woods and larger thickets. The road network is good in some places and sparse in others. The terrain is noticeably hilly, with elevations ranging from 20 to 80 m and climbs of up to 36 m in places. There are also ditches and streams of various sizes. Most of the forest area is managed by LVM. The competition area also contains several lakes — Dzirciema, Vaskaris and Rindzeles — and several bogs, including Ķiļmju Bog, an overgrown lake. This will be a true rogaining event where you can fully enjoy the magic of the forest!
Crossing is prohibited:
- Sown fields
- Micro-reserves and prohibited, particularly dangerous areas marked on the map with purple hatching
- Cemeteries, house yards and gardens (marked in olive green), unless a road passes through them. Please go around houses to avoid disturbing residents.
Scale 1:20 000, contour interval 3 m. The rogaining map was prepared in 2026 using topographic materials from the Latvian Geospatial Information Agency (LĢIA), orthophotos (2025), data from Latvia's State Forests (LVM GEO), field surveys and other information.
Approximately 40–45 control points — orienteering markers with reflectors and punching stations — will be placed in the competition area. Control points (CPs) are worth 2 to 9 points. A CP's value is the tens digit of its number: for example, CP 35 earns a team 3 points, while CP 71 earns 7 points. The punching system is Sportident (SI). The organisers provide contactless SI cards to all participants. All team members must punch each CP with their own SI card within 60 seconds. If the wrist strap securing any team member's SI card is damaged (broken), the team will be disqualified.
Participants are responsible for returning the SI card they receive undamaged to the competition organisers and confirm this by signing at registration. If, for any reason, a participant does not return a rented SI card to the organisers (because it has been lost, forgotten, etc.), the participant agrees to pay its value of EUR 70.00 (seventy euros and 00 cents).
Several water stations with water containers will be set up in the competition area. One will be the special Freedom water station with additional amenities (details will be provided in the pre-start information).
Registration is open from 1 September 2026 to 15 November 2026. A limited number of teams will also be able to register on site on competition day (after notifying us in advance by email at [email protected]). Participants enter online by completing the entry form on the website https://www.k-punkts.lv/. Participants' ages are determined as of 31 December 2026 (inclusive).

For the purposes of these regulations, force majeure includes natural disasters (earthquakes, floods, storms), fires, strikes, acts of war or terrorism that the organisers could not foresee or prevent, and any regulations issued by state or municipal authorities, including warnings, that may affect the competition or the safety of participants and organisers. The competition director decides whether to cancel or postpone the competition and informs participants, the media and other parties involved as soon as possible. If the decision is made 7 days or more before the competition, participants may receive a refund of 50% of their entry fee. If it is made later, entry fees will not be refunded; instead, participants will be offered free entry to the rescheduled event (with the option to change their team line-up) or to another event organised by the organisers within the next 2 years.
The teams with the best results in each time and participant category will receive awards. If 3 or fewer teams start and finish with a valid result in a category, only 1st place will be awarded. The teams finishing 1st–3rd in the Municipalities' Cup will also receive separate awards, both by category and overall. The municipality with the most points receives the challenge trophy. The same rule applies to the Municipalities' Cup: if 3 or fewer teams start and finish with a valid result in a category, only 1st place will be awarded.
After the awards for all categories, separate prize draws will be held for the 3-, 4- and 6-hour courses.
The organisers may change the number of teams receiving awards depending on the number of teams starting in each category and the competition budget.
This will be published no later than 18 November and will clarify various details of the rogaining event, including a layout of the competition centre, the number of control points in the terrain, available services, map size and features, etc. The organisers reserve the right to add services in the pre-start information, such as breakfast and GPS devices for teams.
