Terrain

The competition terrain, approximately 62 km², is located in Zemgale, Ogres municipality, Tome parish. The highest point of the terrain is Rata Hill, 68m above sea level. The area is diverse, with large areas of both young and old forested masses alternating with open and semi-open spaces, including some agricultural lands.

The relief is highly varied, with several mountain ranges, where the elevation can rise up to 30m in places. The forest is mostly pine trees with several beautiful scenic views. There are also various-sized ditches and streams (Līčupe, Vilpīte). A wide network of trails is present across nearly the entire map. The area features an extensive network of forest roads and paths. The competition area includes several marshes and wet forests.

Prohibited areas:

  • Plantations

  • Micro-reserves and prohibited, particularly dangerous areas, marked on the map with a purple grid

  • Cemeteries, houseyards, and gardens (marked in olive green) unless a path passes through them. It is recommended to avoid homes so as not to disturb the residents.

Map

Scale: 1:20,000, contour lines every 3 meters. The rogaining map is prepared in 2025 using topographic materials from the Latvian Geospatial Information Agency (LĢIA), orthophotos (2020), data from Latvian State Forests (LVM GEO), field reconnaissance, and other sources.

Distance, Checkpoints (CP), and Punching

Around 50 checkpoints will be placed in the competition area — orienteering prisms with reflectors and punching stations. The checkpoints (CP) are valued between 2 and 9 points. The point value is determined by the tens digit of the checkpoint number. For example, a CP with number 35 will give the team 3 points, and a CP with number 71 will give 7 points. The punching system is Sportident (SI). The organizers will provide contactless SI cards to participants who indicate in their registration that they will rent a SI card. All team members must punch at the checkpoint using their SI card within 60 seconds. If any team member has a broken (or torn) SI card strap, the team will be disqualified.

Water Stations

There will be 3 water stations with water reservoirs placed in the competition area. One of the water stations will also have a toilet, a rest area, a campfire, and snacks.
